SPECIMEN COLLECTION: Blood

If Plasmodium falciparum parasites are sequestered in the capillaries, why not do a fingerstick rather than a venipuncture?

The capillaries are in the deep tissues (spleen, liver, bone marrow), so a fingerstick blood sample is no more likely to be positive than a venipuncture blood sample.
