SPECIMEN
COLLECTION: Intestinal Tract
What
are the pros and cons of collecting only two fecal specimens?
Due
to cost containment measures, a laboratory may accept two
specimens rather than the recommended three. Data indicates
that organism recovery is probably acceptable, particularly
in symptomatic patients. If collecting only two specimens
it is recommended that they not be collected two days in a
row, but be spaced out over a period of several days. The
percent organism recovery may not equal three specimens but
is still clinically relevant. |
