SPECIMEN
PROCESSING: Ova and Parasite Examination
What
is required by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
for a complete O&P examination?
Both
the concentration and permanent stained smear are considered
mandatory for the O&P examination on a preserved fecal
specimen. If the specimen is fresh or liquid/semi-formed,
examine a direct wet mount. The direct wet mount (observe
organism motility) is not required for fresh formed stools
(would contain cysts, thus no motility) or any preserved stools. |
