IRON HEMATOXYLIN STAIN: Formulas

Solution 1

• Hematoxylin (crystal or powder) 10 g
• Ethanol (absolute) 1,000 ml

Place solution in a stoppered clear flask or bottle and allow to ripen in a lighted room for at least 1 week at room temperature.

Solution 2

• Ferrous ammonium sulfate [Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 6H2O] 10 g
• Ferric ammonium sulfate [FeNH4(SO4)2 12H2O] 10 g
• Hydrochloric acid (concentrated) 10 ml
• Distilled water 1,000 ml
