Although a rather complex procedure, the complement fixation test remains the "Gold Standard" in the serodiagnosis of many diseases. The complement fixation reagents listed below are used to test patients' sera for complement fixing antibodies against Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Coccidioides immitis and Aspergillus fumigatus. The antigens include both optimally diluted (i.e., ready to use) and concentrated (i.e., must be diluted to optimum). Positive control sera are also available to indicate the system is operating properly. All reagents are standardized against reference reagents. The reagents are standardized for use in the "Laboratory Branch Complement Fixation" (LBCF) procedure.

In addition to the antigens and control sera for the various mycotic disease agents, we have rewritten and simplified, with illustrations and worked examples, the standard manual for the LBCF procedure.
